The paper “Self-preservation strategy for approaching global warming targets in the post-Paris Agreement era” on Nature Communications led by Prof. Yi-Ming Wei’s team from Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research, Beijing Institute of Technology (CEEP-BIT) has been published. The team explored a better emission-reduction strategy than current NDCs in terms of the potential net income from climate mitigation and the achievement of warming targets based on our C3IAM model.

The paper shows that there could be a global total loss of around US $150–792 trillion by 2100 if nations cannot meet their current NDCs towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It presents a simulated global cooperation strategy designed to obtain the optimal trajectory in reducing emissions and suggests that this could result in an economic benefit of approximately US $127–616 trillion. It further provides the exact emissions reduction targets, the break-even points and the ceiling costs following the self-preservation strategies.
