Climate impacts unfold in interconnected systems of people, nature, and infrastructure, revealing surprising connections across sectors and regions. Effective climate responses depend on understanding complex interactions. This article builds on the U.S. Fifth National Climate Assessment to suggest a framework for addressing these challenges, involving: integration of disciplines to understand intersectionality in climate impacts, collaborations among diverse knowledge holders, and ongoing experimentation with governance approaches. These pillars emphasize the need for transdisciplinary coordination in research and practice. The article outlines steps for incorporating intersectionality, integration, and innovative governance to confront climate complexity and support equitable, vibrant futures.
