A scenario set developed by the CD-LINKS project consortium led by IIASA with partners from Brazil, China, the European Union, India, Japan, the Russian Federation, and the United States was released on April 29th 2020. The new CD-LINKS Scenario Explorer provides access in particular to national scenario data underpinning a range of publications on national mitigation strategies by expanding the original global scenario dataset that was published in 2018 in support of the IPCC Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C. It thereby provides transparent access to the scenario data and allows developing additional analyses based on this resource.

A new study (Roelfsema et al. 2020), just published in Nature Communications, draws on this scenario set. The researchers focused on emission trends in the seven countries and regions jointly responsible for the majority of global greenhouse gas emissions and identified a large gap between the impact of implemented climate policies and the reductions consistent with the overall goal of the Paris Agreement in all countries. The results show that achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement will require a deep reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions, ideally by around 40% to 50% by 2030.
