The Research Department “Transformation Pathways” combines expertise in integrated assessment modeling with state-of-the art research on climate change impacts from the biophysical to the economic level. This offers a unique environment to push forward the understanding and assessment of socioeconomic impacts of climate change and their interaction with mitigation and development. Avenues for direct stakeholder engagement and high-level policy advise give the opportunity to use research results to make a difference.

For a project on geopolitical risks of climate change hosted in the research group on “Macroeconomic Transitions” PIK is offering a

Post-doctoral position (m/f/d)

in the field of climate economics, starting as soon as possible.

The position is funded for 24,5 months. Remuneration is in accordance with the German public tariff scheme (TV-L Brandenburg), salary group E 13. This is a full-time position with a weekly working time of 40 hours per week. The position can be filled on a part-time basis.

Key responsibilities:

• Advancement of the integrated assessment model REMIND in the area of economic impacts of climate change, with a specific focus on the link between climate impacts and the cost of capital as well as effects of debt dynamics of countries
• Development of the representation of adaptation in the REMIND model
• Design and analysis of policy-relevant scenarios of the interplay of mitigation strategies and climate impacts with specific focus on challenges for developing countries
• Stakeholder interaction

Requirements:

• PhD in economics, mathematics or related field
• Knowledge in the research areas climate change, climate policy, and climate finance
• Training in formal, quantitative methods
• Excellent analytical skills and interest in theoretical and applied modeling
• Demonstrated experience in publishing and presenting scientific work
• Programming experience, knowledge of R and/or GAMS are assets
• Experience with integrated assessment modeling is an asset
• Fluency in English
