ETH Zurich’s Energy and Technology Policy Group (EPG) is seeking a doctoral candidate for research on the clean transport transition in developing countries. We are an interdisciplinary research group investigating options for public policy to accelerate the low-carbon transition globally. This position is part of the ETH Future Mobility Research Project ESYN.
The aim of activities in ESYN is to understand the role of battery electric and synthetic fuel vehicles in decarbonizing passenger road transport (i.e. cars) in developing countries. Specifically, the research will provide valuable insights for decision makers in the public and private sector in understanding the feasibility and attractiveness of commercial scale e-fuels compared with direct electrification for the transport sector in developing economies in Africa.
The position’s primary focus will be technical modelling work (i.e. projection modelling), though will also assess and explore the effects of policy interventions on transitional pathways. The successful candidate will interact closely with two other research groups from ETH involved in the project (in the Environmental Systems and the Mechanical Engineering departments) as well as relevant stakeholders and project partners.
Deadline: October 22nd, 2023
