The energy sector in Australia is undergoing a major transition. The four key components of the sector – electricity, industry, transport and exports – are evolving to enable Australia’s transition to a net-zero emissions energy future. Disruption across the sector will demand new energy science and digital technologies, with profound impacts across the economy. CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, plays an important role in providing advanced energy research and development to assist governments, industry and the community, in the energy transition.
CSIRO’s Energy Business Unit is structured around three Research Programs, combining multi-disciplinary energy knowledge, skills and research capability, and closely collaborating with other CSIRO Business Units:

Universidad San Francisco de Quito**](https://www.usfq.edu.ec/en) is a leader in education, research, creativity, entrepreneurship, and freedom in Latin America. USFQ sets the pace in the development of university education in Ecuador. Its educational philosophy based on Liberal Arts added to modern and participative teaching methods and local and international diversity defines the integral development of its studies. Under the support of the College of Sciences and Engineering the Integrated Assessment Model called Ecuador Land Use and Energy Network Analysis (ELENA) model is being used and improved in cooperation with the Cenergia Lab from Brazil. Elena model is an application of the MESSAGE platform, and it is useful to evaluate different long-term land-energy system expansion scenarios with more focus in deep decarbonisation transitions. USFQ participates in various initiatives on long-term decarbonization scenarios, energy planning, energy system design, renewable energy, modelling, simulation, and technology assessment.
