IAMC appoints new Members to the Advisory Council

The IAMC Consortium has recently nominated three new experts who will be part of its Advisory Council:Dr. Surabi Menon is Vice president of Global Intelligence at ClimateWorks Foundation. Her work supports climate philanthropy by providing a global context for climate mitigation and climate policy progress; identifying investment flows and high-impact investment opportunities; and supporting energy transitions and the developmental and economic benefits associated with reducing climate pollution. Dr. Menon serves on the advisory council of the Integrated Assessment Modeling Consortium and was a charter member of the U.S. EPA’s Science Advisory Board (2012-2018). She has published over sixty peer-reviewed publications and co-authored the 2007 IPCC report that led to a Nobel Peace Prize. She also started an environmental NGO in India in 2008.Prof. Dr. Dirk Messner is the director of the Institute for Environment and Human Security of United Nations University (UNU-EHS). He is also the Co-Director of the “Käte Hamburger Kolleg / Centre for Global Cooperation Research” at the University of Duisburg-Essen. He is an internationally recognized expert on the topics of global change, digitalization, and sustainable development, transformation towards the decarbonization of the global economy, global governance and evolution of human cooperation. Throughout his professional life, Prof. Messner has combined his research interests with teaching activities and he currently serves as a professor of political science at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Moreover Prof. Messner has been chairing or coordinating different international research initiatives. Currently he is one of the coordinators of “The World in 2050”, a global research consortium on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.Dr. Allen Fawcett is the Chief of Climate Economics Branch at the United States Environmental Protection Agency. He collaborated with the U.S. State Department on analysis ahead of the Paris negotiations leading to the paper, “Can Paris pledges avert severe climate change?” (Fawcett et al. Science 2015), and with the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) developing the U.S. Midcentury Strategy, and he served on the U.S. delegation to the 48th Session of the IPCC for the approval of the Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5oC. Allen led EPA’s economic analyses of cap-and-trade bills in the 110th and 111th U.S. Congress. Allen co-chaired the EMF 24 and 32 model intercomparison projects on cap-and-trade vs. regulatory policies and carbon taxes respectively.The Advisory Board new members will be in charge for three years starting from November, 1 2019.
