Call for Emissions Scenario Data for the IPCC AR6

Dear IAMC colleagues,

Please note that the scenario database in support of the IPCC 6th Assessment Report, Working Group III, has just been launched and is now open for submissions.

Following on from successful community scenario database collaborations between the IAMC, IPCC, and IIASA in AR5 and the 1.5° Special report – the AR6 scenario database will now be opened and ready for scenario submissions. These will form part of the evidence base for AR6, as requested by the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Please find the timeline and the details on the process for the scenario submissions as well as asupport letter by the IPCC WGIII co-chairs. All information material is available here. Scenario data can be submitted at this portal. We’d like to encourage you to familiarise yourself with the process as soon as possible, especially for model teams submitting scenarios in this way for the first time. Submission before 31 October 2019 will be considered in the First-Order Draft of the AR6 report (and there is the possibility to submit scenario data also after this date – see timeline). Please circulate this call widely as we hope to encourage submissions from the wide range of scenario developers.

Note that this is the first of two formal “Call for Scenarios” relating to Working Group III of the IPCC 6th Assessment Report (AR6).

• This call, coordinated by WGIII Chapter 3, primarily intended for global and macro-region long-term emissions scenarios, but also relevant to sectoral chapters, e.g. 5-12 & 17 (Energy demand, energy supply, AFOLU, Urban systems, Buildings, Transport, Industry, Cross-sector, Sustainable Development)
• A subsequent call coordinated by WGIII Chapter 4, primarily intended for national and near-term scenarios is expected later in September 2019.
